The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) is offered through the KU Biology Department. A bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology consists of: 43-45 credit hours in general science, 9 credit hours in B.A.S. core curriculum, 31 credit hours in biotechnology major requirements and 6 credit hours of biotechnology elective requirements. Completion of the KU Core is also required for the degree.

In addition, students must complete the KU Core requirements. Overall, students will need to complete at least 120 total credit hours, including 45 hours at the junior/senior course level, to meet the KU bachelor degree requirements.

Biotechnology Scholarships

Students enrolled in KU’s biotechnology program are eligible for the Johnson County Education & Research Triangle Scholarship.

This scholarship is specifically for students who are enrolled in and admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program at the Edwards Campus that was funded by the Johnson County Education and Research Triangle tax. Preference will be given to students with financial need.

Requirements include residence in Johnson County, enrollment in a Triangle-funded program at the Edwards Campus, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, completion of the FAFSA and enrollment in a minimum of six hours at KU Edwards Campus.
