With the concentration of engineering and architecture firms in Kansas City, the Master of Civil Engineering (M.C.E.) will prepare students for roles that require technical expertise, project management and leadership skills.
For individuals who have already earned an undergraduate degree in engineering, the M.C.E. degree offers a comprehensive curriculum leading to broad-based expertise in structural engineering. Through this 30-hour, coursework-only degree program, practicing structural engineers will gain the advanced technical expertise needed for career advancement and better prepare themselves for professional exams.
The American Society of Civil Engineers states that the required knowledge to practice structural engineering, "...exceeds today's typical civil engineering baccalaureate degree, even when coupled with the practical experience gained prior to licensure." The KU Edwards Campus program is designed to provide this additional knowledge and extends in-state tuition rates to the Kansas City area through a special MetroKC tuition rate program.
