Master’s Degree in Elementary Education

Effective Dec. 2, 2016: To meet the demands and schedules of current teachers and educators, the Department of Curriculum & Teaching will offer this Master’s degree program in a fully-online delivery format beginning in Summer 2017. More information on the online program can be found here.


The *Master’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus consists of 30 (thesis or project) or 36 (comprehensive exam) credit hours of coursework, and is built around the intent to address critical issues in today’s learning, teaching, and curriculum for pre-kindergarten to 6th grade learners. This graduate program allows students to select elementary education as an area of emphasis, with a focus in one of the following areas:

  • Literacy (Reading) Education
  • Mathematics and Science Education
  • TESOL Education
  • Technology in the classroom

*This program is a Master of Science in Education in Curriculum & Instruction, with an emphasis in elementary education content. This program does not lead to initial teaching licensure.
