Master of Public Administration

The Degree
The Master of Public Administration (MPA), offered through the KU School of Public Affairs and Administration, is for individuals who seek leadership positions in public sector organizations. Coursework develops students' abilities to design and implement policies, projects, and programs while attending to day-to-day administrative issues, enabling their organizations to provide vital services to communities and address pressing societal problems. The program combines the tradition of academic excellence with the practical aspects of public management. MPA students and alumni share significant leadership potential and a dedication to public service—the same characteristics the admissions committee looks for in applicants.

KU's program was the first MPA program in the United States in which all full professors are members of National Academy of Public Administration. Edwards Campus MPA students benefit from this distinction in the field and from the variety of experiences other students bring to the classroom.

An Education that Ranks
Ranked No. 1 in city management and urban policy among public universities by U.S. News and World Report, KU's public administration program is also accredited by NASPAA, the global standard in public service education.

The Result
Graduates of the program are employed in local, county, and federal governments; law enforcement and fire departments; non-profit organizations; higher education; and for-profit corporations.
